PONDA: In an unusual situation, the Crime Branch which is investigating the alleged black marketing of rice in November 2012 seems to have found an additional 108 rice bags in the truck.
The truck was seized during the raid and according to panchanama conducted by Ponda police; there were 250 rice bags, each weighing 50 kilo each.
However according to sources, the Crime Branch officials have now recorded 358 bags of rice in the truck. Along with this, the police had also sealed the godown that contained about 277 rice bags.
Since the seized commodity is perishable, the investigating officer had written to the North Goa collector seeking permission to dispose off the seized rice.
According to information, the Additional North Goa Collector P K Velip Kankar passed an order on April 22 to dispose of the rice.
“The permission is granted to the Ponda Sub Divisional Police Officer to dispose of the seized rice at the controlled price, with the assistance of civil supply inspector, Ponda,” states the order.
The state government had recently transferred the case to the Crime Branch and a Crime Branch team headed by DySP Nilu Raut Dessai along with PI Brandon D’Souza and PI Uday Naik conducted a panchanama of the rice from the truck and handed over it to the Ponda Civil Supplies section late Wednesday evening.
According to information, the Crime Branch in its panchanama recorded the presence of 358 rice bags, each weighing 50 kilos and this is 108 bags more than what was previously recorded.
