CUNCOLIM: Sources close to Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Lavita Mascaren have told Herald that there is a rift in Joaquim Alemao council panel. There are rumours that some councillors are thinking of joining AAP as well.
The former Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao has deliberately kept Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas out of his assembly elections campaign.
On September 10, Alemao had called a corner meeting at Comba in the ward of Vice Chairperson Mario Moraes.
When asked about her absence, Lavita said that she was ignored by Joaquim. “Since the last three months, I had visited every ward with Alemao for his election meetings. I do not know what made him to keep me out from the Comba meeting. If he doesn’t want my support it is fine,” said Lavita.
She also alleged that there could be others misguiding Joaquim which she is not aware of.
It may recalled that the Joaquim supported Panel is ruling CMC. Recently Lavita had kept the vice-chairperson out from Municipal affairs due to which there is rift between both of them. Alemao had tried to sort out the problem between them but could not resolve the issue.
From the 12 councillors of the Cuncolim Municipal Council, seven Councillors are supporting Alemao. If this rift widens there can be change in the Council, sources said.
