PONDA: PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Saturday alleged that his political rivals were instigating the residents of Undir in Bandora to oppose construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP).
“Only a handful of people who are instigated by my rivals are opposing the construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Undir. These people are corrupt and have no other work, hence, come on streets protesting construction of the STP,” Sudin alleged addressing the media at Ponda on Saturday.
He said that the STP work is being carried out as nullahs, water bodies and wells are being polluted on account sewerage released into ground.
He said that the work on the STP was stopped following a petition filed by those opposing the plant before the Director of Panchayats seeking a stay on the STP work. “Some have even filed a petition in the High Court of Bombay at Goa against the government, SIDCGL, PWD, Goa State Pollution Control Board, Goa Coastal Zone Management and Authority and Bandora Panchayatm,” he informed.
However, the High Court dismissed the petition as the Director of Panchayats was already seized of the subject matter.
The minister has appealed to the locals of Undir not to fall prey to false campaign against STP.
Others addressed the media on the occasion include Bandora Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik, Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, ZP Chitra Fadte and local panch members.

Curti locals stop sewerage work
PONDA: The residents of the Housing Board Colony at Curti on Saturday staged a street protest opposing the proposed sewerage treatment plant (STP) in their locality. Around fifty villagers stopped the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) from laying pipeline at the entrance of service road to the National Highway at Curti, on Saturday evening. The locals led by Deputy Sarpanch Shailesh Shet and Mahalaxmi Housing Board Society President Prakash Sawant demanded see the documents for the proposed Sewerage Plant. Shet said that the SIDCGL had not taken permission for the STP at Curti from the panchayat.
