BICHOLIM: Heavy rains in Bicholim today lashed most of the parts of the taluka with water of Bicholim and Walvanti river at Sanquelim rising and also inundating several places in the taluka.
Heavy rain that lashed Bicholim and also some of the areas in Karnataka caused flood like situation in Bicholim. The rains that began on Thursday night lasted till early morning. There were several places where tree falling incidents were reported. Some of the mining companies let out water from their pits so as to avoid breaching the pits.
As per the fire force officials there were no major damage reported in the taluka except that there were tree falling incidents reported at Mulgao, Mayem and Kudchirem. As per the sources there was flood like situation at Sal in Bicholim. Water entered a temple in Sal and even the roads were flooded. The retaining walls of some of the residents also got damaged due to heavy rainfall.
Since morning the rivers in Bicholim and Sanquelim were over flowing. ‘Setu sangam’ at Bicholim was submerged under water and flood like situation remained till evening. The fire force officials and other officials were monitoring the situation.
