SANGUEM: The residents of Shivsorem and Kavrem in Rivona stopped the transportation of e-auctioned ore from the village on account of alleged failure of the transport contractor to comply with the regulations for transporting ore through villages.
The villagers complained that ever since the transportation began in the village, the contractor failed to undertake the cleanliness drive in the village. The villagers complained that dust pollution on the road has increased on account of the transportation of ore through the village road.
The villagers alleged that though the contractor is required to dust the roads on regular basis and also water the roads, the contractor failed to do so.
The villagers also alleged that ore is transported during the afternoon time from 1 pm to 2 pm, which they said, is against an order banning ore transportation from 1 pm to 2 pm. This order was issued to facilitate the school going children return home in time and in peace.
However, trucks carrying ore were seen on the wheels during the afternoon time in violation of the order, the villagers claimed.
On learning that the villagers blocked the ore carrying trucks, Sanguem Mamlatdar Laxmikant Dessai accompanied by PSI Biju Dessai rushed to Rivona and tried to convince the people to allow the truck to ply. However, the villagers stood firm on their demand to have the transport contractor in the village before any further transportation activity is undertaken in the village.
Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar also rushed to Rivona and assured full support and cooperation to the villagers if the mining contractor does anything bad in the village. “I will not permit the transportation activity in the village at the cost of the villagers,” Gaonkar assured the villagers.
