MARGAO: After inspecting the site where the Railways is preparing to lay the second track at Guirdolim, South Goa Collector Ajit Roy on Tuesday opined that the villagers’ fears about flooding appeared true and directed the Railways to remove the mud blocking the free flow of water.
Agreeing with the local MLA Clafasio Dias that the local body should be taken into confidence, the Collector asked the South Western Railways officials to submit their plans and project report to the panchayat at the earliest.
He assured the villagers that after the monsoons Railways would construct a retaining wall to ensure that the mud piled up by them to prepare the ground to lay the second track does not slide down into adjoining property.
Dias lamented that the Railways did not take him or the panchayat into confidence and claimed out that the villagers were attacking him over this so called developmental work, which was done without his knowledge.
Railways site engineer Sachin Kumar said he would submit the project report and plans to the Guirdolim panchayat on May 18 and the officials disbursed from the scene.
Clafasio said this issue has affected the village and the people at large and urged against politicising it.
Guirdolim panchas and Jose Pereira member of Chandor Cavorim panchayat were present for the inspection.
