Road contractors run for Margao civic polls

MARGAO, OCT 5
PWD road contractors showed the way for the prospective candidates for the ensuing polls for the Margao Municipal Council as the office of Returning officer, Margao Johnson Fernandes received two nomination papers on Tuesday.
Flamboyant Class I contractor Arthur D’Silva filed his nomination paper in style, taking a rally from the Agalli ward with his supporters before culminating at the district Collectorate building.
Accompanied with his band of supporters, D’silva filed his nomination paper for Ward No 1 of the Margao Civic body. He later told newsmen that he has been into social work for a long time and claimed to have taken up the work of street light illumination, besides other ward level work.
Another candidate who filed his nomination papers for the Margao Civic body was Class III contractor, Camilo Barretto. He is contesting from Ward No 9 which was represented by his wife Livramenta in the last polls.
Camilo said he along with his wife had taken up lot of work in the last five years in Borda, adding that his wife will contest from the reserved Marlem ward.
Herald understands that around half-a-dozen road contractors, especially from the Fatorda area of the Margao Municipal Council are bracing up to file their nomination papers for the ensuing polls.
In the last election, a couple of road contractors had contested the polls from Fatorda and atleast one had turned out successful in the battle of the ballot.
