MAPUSA: Authorities have erected plastic road dividers in the underpass at Tar-Bastora junction near Mapusa along the NH-17.
The underpass was thrown open to the public more than two months ago. However, without dividers the underpass was turning out to be a dangerous spot for commuters. Vehicles would move in and out of this underpass in a very haphazard manner that could lead to a major tragedy.
Herald had reported about the danger faced by commuters at this underpass a month ago.
A local from Mapusa, Shekhar Naik had also posted his grievances on social media requesting the local MLA, Glenn Ticlo and Bastora Sarpanch, Savio Martins to look into the matter. He had requested the authorities to erect road divider cautioning of a major tragedy taking place at the underpass.
Taking cognizance of the news report and the demand from the locals, authorities on Tuesday erected plastic road dividers for better management of transport and safety of commuters.
Traffic signals have also been set up at the entrance and exit of the underpass but they are yet to be made operational.
Locals expressed that the plastic road dividers at the Tar – Bastora underpass has come as a sigh of relief for the locals traveling on the route on a regular basis.
