MAPUSA/PONDA/CANACONA: Three persons died, while one boy was seriously injured in three separate road accidents at Revora, Daag-Ponda and Loliem-Canacona on Sunday.
According to Mapusa police, Denielson Fernandes (16), who was studying at a higher secondary school in Mapusa, along with Suraj Mandrekar (15) were proceeding on their scooter from Revora to Colvale when a sand-laden truck dashed against their two-wheeler at Revora Manos at about 2.30 pm.
Police said Fernandes was rushed to District Hospital at Mapusa, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Suraj, who sustained serious injuries, was moved to the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim. The truck driver, Jalesh Prabhu Gaonkar from Camurlim, was arrested and later released on bail. Mapusa police is investigating the case.
In another accident at Daag-Ponda, a 33-year-old security guard from UP died. According to Ponda police, Deepak Kevat, residing in a rented house at Dhokham-Kavlem, was proceeding on his motorcycle (GA-01-K-2552) from Ponda to Daag when he lost control of the vehicle at a sharp turn near PWD (water supply division) office and went off the road and crashed into a roadside wall. He died on the spot.
Police further informed that the deceased was working as a security guard at a newly constructed building at Upper Bazaar, Ponda. He was residing with his family and is survived by his wife and three children. Ponda police conducted the panchanama and is investigating the case.
In the third accident on Sunday, this time at Loliem-Canacona, a 28-year-old resident of Margao died when his bike was involved in a mishap with a jeep.
According to Canacona police, Jyotibha Dessai was proceeding on a two-wheeler (GA-08-Q-4422) from Karwar towards Canacona when it dashed against an oncoming jeep (GA-10-J-0546). The accident occurred at a straight road at Tamnem-Loliem at about 4.30 pm. Dessai is learnt to have succumbed on the spot.
Canacona police has reportedly booked the jeep driver.
