VASCO: In a daring robbery, a masked man robbed Rs 2.3 lakh at knifepoint at the petrol pump in the heart of Vasco city on Saturday night.
In a police complaint, the petrol pump cashier, Antonio Pegado, stated that the incident took place at about 8.30 pm while he was closing sales for the day and was in the process of counting the cash.
A masked man, believed to be in his twenties, burst into the cabin and placed a knife at the cashier’s neck and warned him not to raise an alarm. The robber then grabbed the cash of Rs 2.3 lakh and  fled from the site.
The cashier raised an alarm and security personnel at the petrol pump rushed to the cabin and searched the area, but failed to trace the robber.
Later speaking to Herald, the petrol pump owner, Paresh Joshi, who is also president of All Goa Petrol Pump Association, said “Although a CCTV was installed in the cabin, it had been switched off due to renovation of the premises. The robbery must be the handiwork of a known person, as he was aware that the CCTV was not in operation these days.” A Vasco police team went to the site and has registered an offence.
