PANJIM: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ICAR) in collaboration with Green Growth Institute, an NGO from Sangolda working for children & women celebrated International Women’s Day at the campus on Friday.
The inaugural function which was chaired by Dr Narendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR Research Complex for Goa, Old Goa who saluted the dedication & role played by women and said that 70 per cent to 80 per cent of farm work is done by women who are more sincere and committed in their duty. He stressed that Kanyadaan is the biggest daan for a father and our life is made complete by women, according to a press note.
Dr Singh also spoke about the concept of home gardening & kitchen gardening which can bring about economic security besides giving them fresh fruits and vegetables. He appealed to them to get acquainted with all the technologies available with KVK as well as institute and grow plants like drumstick, curry leaves and vegetables for daily need like brinjal, bhendi and fruit trees like papaya, banana, lime, mango, sapota so that the family saves on expenses towards purchases, the press note adds.
Sandra Fernandes said that though women have equal status there is still a need to empower them, to bring about their economic well being and improve the national economy.
She also placed on record the yeomen service being rendered by Krishi Vigyan Kendra in empowering women in Guirim, Sangolda and other villages. She mentioned that KVK officials are dedicated to their duties and provide all the support to her NGO. Highlighting the role played by women in different spheres she thanked the director (ICAR) and KVK for their support. Ranju Kunkalikar mentioned that the women need to raise their capabilities through empowerment and work unitedly to achieve success. Geeta Pansare, Deputy Manager – NABARD complimented the women and highlighted the various programme and funding schemes of NABARD for women. She narrated the concepts of self help groups and joint liability groups and mentioned that only 60 per cent avail financial assistance from banking industry while 40 per cent depend as internal lending. She assured that NABARD will support and finance any innovative activity by women since women have better thrifts & repaying commitments. She congratulated Krishi Vigyan Kendra & Green Growth Institute for organizing this important programme on the International Women’s Day.
Sunetra Talaulikar, SMS (Home Science) compered the function while Vishram Gaonkar. Programme Coordinator I/C, KVK proposed the vote of thanks.
