PONDA: Rashtriya OBC Mahasanga Goa State (ROMGS) on Monday demanded with the State government to fulfil the long pending demands of the Other Backward Class (OBC) before 2022 Assembly elections.
At a meeting held here, the ROMGS under chairmanship of Madu Naik and 19 OBC communities’ members alleged that the government is negligent to their demand and passed a resolution to unitedly fight for their long pending demands.
Naik said, “The OBC are deprived of schemes as the officials fail to understand the criteria for income ceiling for issuing OBC certificates and often raise objections while issuing the certificates.”
He informed Herald that as per latest notification by the Central government, the criteria to qualify for OBC certificate (non creamy layer) to obtain various OBC schemes, the applicant’s parents annual income should be less than Rs 8 lakh.
He said, “While calculating the annual income ceiling of Rs 8lakh for parents of non creamy layers, the salary and agricultural income need not to be taken into consideration. However, many OBC people in Goa are finding it difficult to get the certificates as the Deputy Collectors, Talathis object to issue certificates as they include their salary income while calculating annual income, which is wrong.”
On the occasion, various office bearers from 19 OBC communities were appointed as the office bearers of ROMGS Goa.
Later, the OBC communities put forth their proposals to fulfil their five pending demands, which include to fill in the OBC commissioner’s vacant post, to establish OBC Welfare Ministry in Goa, to extend Eklavya Coaching Schemes to OBC and weaker sections, to conduct OBC Census and finally, to fill up the backlog of all vacancies of OBC.
