PANJIM: The Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera donated 50 corrugated cardboard beds with 50 mattresses to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim, so as to address the shortage of hospitals beds for COVID-19 patients, on Wednesday.
The corrugated cardboard beds are manufactured by the Velvin Packaging Private Limited, Corlim, who also make corrugated boxes and other eco-friendly products for home use.
According to Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera director Adv Amit Palekar, these beds are able to take weight of about 200-kg plus and suitable for patients to be used. These are also lightweight beds and can be assembled easily.
“These beds will are temporary and were approved by GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar last week”, Adv Palekar informed.
Adv Palekar further disclosed that the Rotary Club of Panaji Riveira will also donate Fowler beds with mattresses to the GMC. “We have already Fowler beds ordered and they are in transit,” he said.
GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said that they have decided to accept these corrugated beds with mattresses and the same will be used in the GMC COVID care facilities.
It is learnt that the need for more hospital beds in order to keep up with the growing number of COVID-19 patients is growing in the State.
