Ex-chief minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy failed to depose before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday in connection with the ongoing probe into the multi-crore mining scam. SIT SP Kartik Kashyap said Roy, through advocate Satish Pilgaonkar, has sought time to appear. “He has cited health reasons for not appearing for questioning on Friday. Advocate Pilgaonkar appeared on his behalf seeking five days time for appearance. He has been called on Wednesday,” the officer said.
While details of his involvement have not been discussed, sources said Roy is one of the lease holders against whom action was allegedly sought. In all 187 mining leases are under investigation as part of the main probe into the mining scam. In 2012, a local activist had lodged a police complaint seeking action against 151 persons, including Roy, for corruption and causing loss to the State exchequer due to illegal mining. The then government had formed an SIT to probe all mining related offences. While some fresh cases were lodged, others which were lodged at different police stations were transferred to SIT.
