PONDA: Property worth Rs 4.32 crore was destroyed in various fire incidents reported last year by the Ponda Fire Sub-Division.

According to records available with the Ponda Fire Sub-Division, which has five fire stations of Valpoi, Old Goa, Bicholim, Kundaim and Ponda, property worth Rs 13.37 crore was saved from fire and other allied incidents, while property worth Rs 4.32 crore was gutted in various fire incidents reported from January to December 2012.

Of the five fire stations in Ponda fire sub-division, fire personnel from Valpoi fire station saved the maximum amount of property worth Rs 5.79 crore, followed by Old Goa fire station (Rs 3.29 crore). The Valpoi fire station has also recorded highest property loss in fire incidents (Rs 2.04 crore), followed by Bicholim fire station (Rs 85.23 lakh).

One death was reported due to a fire incident in the jurisdiction of Ponda fire station. In all, the five fire stations saved 35 people and 131 animals.
