MARGAO: In a bid to get to the bottom of the fake birth registration racket unearthed in the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), the Shadow Council Saturday announced a reward of Rs 5,00,000 to anyone who identifies and locates a child that was not born in Goa but its birth is registered in the municipality.
Besides case of one Renuka Tehsildar turning into Reeta Fernandes, the Shadow Council has identified several other such fake registrations and had expected action .
However, “it appears that this scheme of affairs has strong backing by certain powers, and if it is not possible to pin down the culprits, at least the fake registrations should be struck off from the records,” said Savio Coutinho, a former MMC chief.
