MARGAO: The Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar has thanked the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for allocating Rs 700 crore for the improvement of electricity infrastructure in Goa. The minister was at Navelim on the request of the local MLA Luizinho Faleiro to review the works.
The minister said that he was visiting Navelim on the request of Luizinho to review the problems of electricity in Navelim and other areas.
“We had detailed discussion ward wise and have sought solutions. The Konkan railway jurisdiction transformer up gradation will be done within few days and the work order has been issued. The 6.3 MVA transformer will be upgraded to 10 MVA power transformer and it will solve the problems of fluctuation of Navelim,” the minister said.
“A 33/11 KVA substation at a cost of Rs 20 crore has been suggested and this will solve the problem completely. The NOC for the land was a problem and now it has been given. The work will begin in the next two months. Besides, a number of transformers will be upgraded in the area,” he added.
He said that his department was working towards unobstructed and quality power to all the consumers.
Speaking on the issue of maintaining street lights the minister said, “Guidelines will be issued wherein all the electricity related assets anywhere in Goa will be maintained by our department and will not be handled by the executing agency.”
Of the Rs 700 crore sanctioned by the government, Madkaikar said, Rs 150 to 200 crore would be spent on sub-stations at Tuem, Navelim and the Kadamba plateau.
