PANJIM: A Rajya Sabha special committee has asked the State government for details on women and their place in departments and organizations in the State.
The questionnaire which was sent initially to the Law department, Vigilance department, and then to all other departments, asks questions such as number of women employees in the department (grade wise) viz a viz, male employees and the ratio of men and women employees in each grade of the departments. The questionnaire also asks for opinion on providing reservation to women in government services. In the backdrop of the brutal rape and murder of a young 23-year-old in New Delhi, the dismal state of
policing and skewed balance of women in various departments has come into focus.
The upper house questionnaire asks, “what are the measures taken by the establishment to ensure safety of women while travelling from place of work to residence, especially during early morning and late night shifts, if any?” And whether there is a separate pool of residential accommodation for women?
The questions asked also include what measures have been taken to improve existing mechanism or creating a more effective mechanism dealing with complaints of women? And whether women officers are associated with such mechanism, as well as whether they had adopted a policy of flexible working hours for women especially for young mothers?
It also wishes to know whether any complaints regarding discrimination based on gender had been received from women employees.
