RTA chief calls for meet

Whether the old bus stand will be closed for the short distance route buses will be known on Friday at a meeting of the RTA meeting.
RTA Chairman and Deputy Collector Johnson Fernandes said he will convene a meeting of the RTA on Friday to discuss the demand of the All Goa Private Bus Owners Association on the closure of the old bus stand.
He clarified that the question over the closure of the old bus stand have cropped up after the bus owners Association referred the same in their statutory notice served on the Chief Secretary.
Sources in the know said that Transport and Traffic officials are in favour of closure of the bus stand to cover up their failure in regulating growing traffic in the Commercial Capital. A proposal is gaining ground that short distance route buses be diverted at the Nanutel instead of permitting them entry into the city, but the chaos witnessed on the Nanutel-Abade Faria after the authorities debarred shuttle buses from entering the city is still fresh in the minds of the commuters.
Meanwhile, the RTA Chairman has said that Transport authorities will carry out vigilance on the public transport buses from Wednesday. “The authorities will check whether the buses are complying with the provisions of the motor vehicles Act”, he added.
