PANJIM: RTI activist Rajan Ghate joined the striking 108 employees’ union members in their protests at Azad Maidan, saying that if their demands are not fulfilled within 12 hours they would sit outside the chief minister’s Altinho residence.
“There seems to be some sort of money motive behind why the government is not giving in to the demands of these young people. Why is it that the Goa government is not worried about the plight of the Goan youth?” he asked.
Ghate added that the main demands were to get the 33 ambulances operational and on the road. “Currently there are only 10 to 12 ambulances operating. Their main demand is to make all the 33 ambulances functional. Other issues include security to women employees and reduction of night shifts for women,” said Ghate.
Already on their 12th day of the hunger strike, the employees have decided to take their families along with them for the protest outside the CM’s house. Although a meeting was scheduled by the CM last week, but with no representative from GVK EMRI present, the EMT specialists and pilots were forced to return without any assurances.
