PANJIM: In what could spell more trouble for the two proclaimed offenders in the Ruby Residency building collapse case, Crime Branch has booked the duo for disregarding non-bailable warrants issued against them by a local court.
Former directors of Bharat Developers and Realtors Pvt Ltd, Pradip Singh Birring and Jagdeep Kumar Seghal are already facing serious criminal and corruption charges after a five storey under construction building crashed, killing 31 labourers this January.
Crime Branch Superintendent of Police Kartik Kashyap said they have booked the duo under section 174 A of the Indian Penal Code for dishonouring court orders. The investigating team has already attached their properties worth Rs 30 crore even as futile attempts are made to trace their location.
The officer said they are in regular contact with the concerned Interpol Liaison Officer as one of two absconders is possibly hiding in UK.
The crime branch had earlier raided various places and seized documents in Goa and Mumbai. A total of nine senior government officers, who now stand suspended, including a contractor were arrested in connection with the case.
Kashyap said a charge sheet in the case is expected in the next one month’s time as search for the two builders is still on. “Whether or not they are arrested, we will go ahead to charge sheet the case. Once we apprehend them after the filing of the charge sheet, a supplementary charge sheet will be submitted to the court,” he disclosed.
The Crime Branch is also waiting for forensic report of the construction materials.
