Rumours make rounds over safety of ballot boxes in Quepem

QUEPEM: With counting to the Quepem Municipal Council’s 13 wards set on Monday, there were rumours making rounds in the Quepem municipal jurisdiction areas over the safety of the ballot boxes stored at Borimol Sports Complex, here.

Congress Block President of Quepem Manuel Colaco said, “There was an intimation from the party higher-ups stating that there are likely chances of ballot boxes to be exchanged and to keep a close watch on any untoward movements in the vicinity. On this, our supporters met Mamlatdar and police officials and discussed about the situation. They informed us that the strong room is well protected with police force and CCTV surveillance.”

“Still as a precautionary measure, Friday evening onwards our supporters kept a watch on the surrounding of the Borimol Sports Complex were ballot boxes are stored,” Colaco added.

Quepem Police Inspector Deepak Pednekar said, “With an incident taking place at Mapusa, we have deployed extra police force with one Police Sub-Inspector to report about the situation every two hours at the sports complex. There are also CCTV cameras installed to a keep watch from every angle.”

“On Saturday Congress Party workers came here and enquired about the situation and in last two days everything is going normal and nothing suspicious was reported,” he added.
