COLVALE: The Mapusa police have booked eight inmates of Colvale jail for assaulting their fellow inmate a Russian, Llia Aleksandrovich Shtennikov causing him bodily injuries, on Friday.
The accused are identified as Dayashankar, Babu Arolkar, Caji, Ashvek, Joseph, Vijay Patole, Umesh Rathod and Suresh Shetye.
They have been booked for forming unlawful assembly, wrongful restrained and assault.
Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar informed Herald that jailer Krishna Usgaonkar lodged a complaint that on Friday morning at the prison dispensary, the eight accused with their common object formed an unlawful assembly and wrongfully restrained the victim.
“The victim will be able to tell us what exactly happened. He is currently recuperating at Goa Medical College, Bambolim. The accused have been booked for forming an unlawful assembly and causing hurt. The victim was arrested in an NDPS case at Pernem,” Lotlikar said.
PSI Paresh Ramnathkar is investigating the case under the supervision PI Lotlikar.
