Sail parade, fly past to mark Liberation Day

PANJIM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay tributes at the Martyrs Memorial during his visit to Azad Maidan, Panjim at 2 pm. 

This will be followed by the colourful sail parade and fly past by Navy at Miramar Beach at 2.30pm. 

The event will kick start with the fly past depicting contribution of numerous services in the liberation of Goa. Thereafter, the PM will felicitate freedom fighters and veterans of “Operation Vijay” at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao, at 3 pm.

Rear Admiral Phillipose George Pynumootil, Flag Officer Goa Naval Area briefed the media persons about the sequence of events to be held at the day of PM’s visit to commemorate the 60 years of Goa liberation. 

Naval Officer Goa in-charge CMDE Ashish Goel, Ravi Dhawan, Secretary of Information and Publicity Dept along with CMDE Prasad Padhay, OSD to CM were present at the press conference held in Panjim on Saturday. 

He said along with tourism and sports activities the function will showcase culture and tradition of Goa. Various boats including those manufactured in Goa will also be included in the sail parade. 

“In regards to this I urge people to gather in large number to witness the eye catching experience,” the CMDE said.

“Citizens are requested to be present at the venue latest by 12.45pm; after which the movement will be restricted,” Goyal added.
