MARGAO: Salcete Block Development Officer, M S Mardolkar has come under the scanner as his office has issued a memo to the Sao Jose de Areal village panchayat not to raze down the goal posts in the open space in Sonu Township since the matter is sub-judice.
Complainant Menino Santan Fernandes has cried foul over the BDO’s memo to the panchayat secretary, stating that the so called civic suit in the court has nothing to do with the demolition exercise.
In fact, Menino has given 24-hour time frame to the BDO to withdraw the said memo, terming it as illegal and has threatened to initiate legal proceedings against Mardolkar, including damages for harassment and mental torture.
Menino said the BDO’s action smacks of political pressure as evident by the fact that demolition of the goal posts was earlier sabotaged on the lame excuse that PWD labourers had failed to turn up for the exercise.
In his memo, the Salcete BDO has stated, ‘There is a civil suit in the court of Additional district Judge, South for the same relief and therefore the matter being sub-judice, this office cannot act further in the matter.’
Menino, however, argued that the demolition has got nothing to do with the civic suit pending in the Additional district Court, accusing the BDO for acting under political pressure.
