MARGAO: General public, besides political leaders and even the social activists of Salcete taluka have expressed anger over the hike in fuel and domestic gas prices on Tuesday. Women-folk of the taluka have even charged the BJP government for adding more hardships to the common people.

Speaking to Herald with regard to hike in fuel and gas prices it was observed that the common people will find themselves in tight situations to cope up with the increasing prices.

Many have even charged the BJP government at the centre of  looting the people, besides false promises.

Reacting to the hike in fuel and gas prices, newly elected Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao said the most insensitive, irresponsible BJP government has once again displayed its anti-people agenda by increasing petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder prices immediately after Assembly elections.

He also came down heavily on the announcement made by the acting Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant of holding the swearing-in of the new government on March 28.

“Convenience of the people of Goa is more important than convenience of PM Narendra Modi, HM Amit Shah and other BJP leaders. Goa wants a full-fledged government in place immediately,” said Alemao.

“Even before the BJP government, hopefully under the defective Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is sworn-in Prime Minister Narendra Modi has played a cruel joke on the citizens by hiking petrol, diesel and LPG prices,” said Alemao.

While Siddesh Bhagat, AAP vice-president National Youth Wing said that BJP has been elected in five States, and they are repaying the common man.

“In a latest gift by the BJP, there’s been a hike in fuel prices and domestic LPG cylinder. Prices of LPG have been hiked by Rs 50 in Delhi, Mumbai and other cities from Tuesday. This is the first increase since October 2021,” said Bhagat.

He further said in Goa, the recently elected BJP had promised three LPG cylinders per household in their manifesto. “A regular flag bearer of its own manifesto, they have chosen instead to hit the common man with a hike in fuel prices and a substantial increase in the price of LPG cylinders in a post pandemic recovering economy,” said Bhagat.

Santano Rodrigues, a motorcycle pilot, said that this will lead to adding more hardships to the common man, who is already in trouble due to the COVID-19.

“How a common man like me will be able to manage their families, due to increase in fuel and gas prices on regular intervals. It seems that the government is not at all concerned with the hardships of the common man,” said Rodrigues.

Deepa Naik, a housewife from Navelim “I am the only bread owner in the family, and we are struggling hard to manage the household. This hike in prices will add to our hardships.”

Sukanti Borkar, another housewife, charged the government for a hike in fuel and LPG prices.

“Why cannot the government understand the difficulties faced by the people? We are already burdened with financial crises in wake COVID-19. Increasing in power and water tariff has already made our living difficult, and now this hike in fuel and LPG prices will surely result in more hardships,” said Borkar.

Guadalupe Dias, working women from Nuvem said the common man’s happiness is based on a well-established balance between his income and expenses. The unexpected increase in fuel and LPG costs has put salaried people like me in a bind.

“The economy was modestly improving after the Covid struggle, but this price jump will send most of us back to square one. I wish Newton’s theory of ‘everything that goes up is bound to come down’ could have saved us in this scenario,” said Dias.
