PANJIM: Bailancho Saad has strongly condemned the sale of alcohol on government premises during World Tourism Day programmes held at the INOX courtyard on September 27 and 28.
The children’s play area had three huge alcohol advertisements which is against the law, the NGO alleged. Despite High Court orders banning advertisement of alcohol, the government continues to violate all laws of the land with impunity, said Sabina Martins of Bailancho Saad in a press communiqué today.
Alcohol stalls were put up on the premises where hard liquor was sold and consumed, she said.
Despite several protests and memorandums, the government continues to promote alcohol, said she.
In addition Martins pointed out that alcohol, gambling, drug parties are promoted in the name of Tourism and that it was shameful that prominent citizens also partake in pushing Goa downhill for a few rupees.
Bailancho Saad stated that all the revenue generated by these vices have not been able to remedy the disastrous toll it has taken on families especially women and children and society at large. The quality of life and security of people have taken a severe beating.
Martins disclosed that the next sale of alcohol is scheduled for IFFI despite objections and permissions are given last minute so that no legal recourse can be taken.
Bailanch2o Saad will continue to protest and campaign against the government for selling alcohol on government premises and promoting vices to generate revenue, she said.
