MARGAO: Hospicio’s CT-scan broke down once again, putting patients to great hardships, leaving them with no option than to knock the doors of the city-based private hospitals to avail the facility.
Inquiries have revealed that it’s now nearly 20-day days since the CT-scan facility went out of order following a snag in the computer software. When Herald contacted Hospicio Medical Superintendent, Dr P Naschinolkar, he said that the hospital has drawn the attention of the Directorate of Health Services to carry out the repairs and put the scan facility to use.
“Hospicio has submitted a report to the Directorate of Health Services about the break down in the scan facility. The company engaged in the maintenance work has also inspected the scan and has submitted the estimates,” he said.
Sources in the know said it would cost the exchequer around Rs 2.5 lakh to get the scan facility repaired.
The delay in repairing the CT scan came to light when a patient came for a check, only to be told that the facility was awaiting repairs. Margao Municipal Councilor Raju Naik told Herald that it’s indeed sad that the government cannot even maintain bare facilities in the hospital, when they are talking about the state-of-the-art district hospital. “It would take months and years for the district hospital to fall in place, but the government should ensure basic facilities at Hospicio till it is shifted to the new building,” Naik asserted.
What left the Councilor fuming was the fact that private hospitals are asking the patients to first deposit the money before carrying out the scan.
Incidentally, the breaking down of the Hospicio CT-scan is a regular feature.
