MARGAO: Samruddh, a project that aims at creating an entrepreneur of every farmer, has made its mark at Dongorim-Nuvem.
Under this novel idea, farmers can look forward to process masala, flour, papad, potato chips, betel nut and grow rice in their backyard with the help of nine machines installed under one roof at Dongorim.
South Goa Zilla Panchayat Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues said the Centre has applied for an FDA license so as to enable the farmers processing their produce in the unit to market their produce to hotels, shopping centres and to the consumers.
“The project has been launched by the Zilla Panchayat in coordination with AIMS (An Identity of My Self) as an incentive to farmers who do not perceive agriculture as a profitable business.
AIMS thus gave a project proposal to Rotary Club of Margao Midtown on women empowerment under the matching grant program.
Based on the local availability of raw materials, machines were brought by Rotary Club of Margao Midtown, dist. 3170, Rotary Club of Fresno, California, USA, dist. 5230 and Rotary Foundation under the matching grant,” Nelly told media persons.
