Sanads granted to 200 Tillari project affected families in Bicholim

BICHOLIM: In a major relief to Tillari dam project-affected families, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye informed that the 200 families will be granted sanads on Thursday. “The families displaced due to the Tillari project and currently rehabilitated at Sal rehabilitation colony will be granted rights to land and houses,” Shetye assured. 

Tillari dam, a project jointly developed by Goa and Maharashtra became operational in 1980. In total, nine villages from Maharashtra namely Pal, Sargane, Shivange, Ainode, Patye, Kendr Khurd, Kendr Budruk, Tervan Medhe, Konal were submerged under the dam water. A total of 1110 families were project-affected out of which 200 were rehabilitated at Sal in Goa on 20.58 hectares of land, while the rest of 910 were resettled in Maharashtra. 

The land at Sal in survey no 130 and 131 where the families were rehabilitated was with Water Resources Department since 1993. A total of 163 project affected persons were given government jobs. 

“Later in 2014 during the meeting between chief ministers of Goa and Maharashtra, it was decided to give one-time payment of Rs 5 lakh to the families instead of government jobs. So far 705 families have been compensated with the Goa government paying 77.03% of the total amount and Maharashtra paying 26.70%,” Shetye said.

The programme was organised at Dattatreya temple in the colony and was attended by WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, Collector Sneha Gitte IAS, Kishor Tawde, Rajaram Parab and panch members.
