CORTALIM, SEPT 9
Several areas in Sancoale and Cortalim witnessed a power blackout after a tree fell on a power line at Sindolim-Sancoale.
A resident from Sancoale called up Herald at 10.10 pm informing that the power was shut down for over 3 hours and was restored only at 11.20 pm.
“When I contacted Assistant Engineer Naik to find out the problem, the engineer informed me that the lines were snapped after a tree fell on the lines,” he further informed.
“I told Naik that the main line could be charged and the line to the affected areas could be shut down. But he (engineer) informed me that it would require more work force which is not available with them,” said the resident and criticised the department of its inefficiency.
Despite efforts, Junior Engineer Karekar did not attend to his mobile phone to comment on the exact nature of problem and the department land phone was found surprisingly continuously busy.
