Sangolda couple arrested for abandoning their new born

MAPUSA: Mapusa police arrested a couple from Sangolda for abandoning their baby near a garage in Peddem on August 19. The baby was abandoned by the couple who have two more children due to issues of nurturing the baby.
Initially, the Mapusa police had registered an offence against unknown persons under Sections 336 and 317 of IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act, for abandoning the born baby thereby endangering the life of the new born.  
During the course of investigation, police identified the couple as Mala Shaha and Girish Shaha.
After abandoning the baby on August 19, the accused couple moved out of Goa. However, police received specific information that the couple would be visiting the Vasco railway station. Accordingly, staff from Mapusa police station was deputed to Vasco railway station where the duo was nabbed and brought to Mapusa.
During the course of interrogation both the accused admitted of committing the crime and disclosed that they had issues with apprehension of nurturing the baby as had two more children.
The investigating team comprised of Mapusa PI Kapil Nayak, PSI Amin Naik, Head Constable Irshad Watange, Constables Sushant Chopdekar, Rajesh Kandolkar, Frankey Vaz, Lady Police Constable Ankita Gadekar.
