sanguem: Majority of the parents of Std X students studying in a private school at Sanguem have bitterly decried the conduct of classes for Std X students since the last few days.
The classes are reportedly being held even after majority parents opposed the conduct of classes at a meeting held recently in the school.
Sources informed that of the total enrollment figure, which is a little over 100 students, around 10 to 15 students are attending the classes with due consent of their parents.
Inquiries revealed that the school management had a meeting of the parents and were informed of the school plan to start the classes for Class X students. Sources stated that the management also sought a written undertaking from the parents of their willingness to send their children for classes solely at their risk.
However with increasing number of COVID-19 cases, majority parents opposed the management’s plan to start the classes in the best interest of the safety of their wards.
The parents informed that they will not send their children to the school unless the government and the school authorities take the responsibility of any happenings to their wards.
What’s more, in the absence of a dedicated school bus service, the parents also have to shoulder the responsibility of dropping the students to school and get them back after school hours. The parents, who work during the day, are finding it hard to manage. with this arrangement of dropping their children for classes and taking them back. Questions were also raised about use of masks and sanitisers at the school.
Sources added that the school management is requesting the parents to send their children for the classes after giving a due undertaking to that effect, which the parents find unacceptable as of now.
Meanwhile, a large number of parents of high school students from Sanguem are likely to have a meeting at Sanguem to oppose the government’s move for starting the classes.
