BICHOLIM: The Sanquelim Yapari Saghatna through a major decision has resolved to hold bazaar day for two days on Sunday and Monday to make up for the losses incurred by the shopkeepers and attract more customers.
It may be stated that a special meeting of Sanquelim Yapari Saghatna was held in Sanquelim in the presence of Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, SMC Chairman Dharmesh Saglani, Chief officer Pranvijay Pandit and SYS President Satyavan Kanekar.
The traders highlighted their plight during the meeting and demanded the authorities to resolve the issues. The issue of pending projects came up for discussion. The traders said that they have been suffering losses due to several problems.
They told that the construction of new bus stand is taking too much of a time and the work is halted. They said that as there is no bus stand there is problem for the buses to be parked and even the people don’t like to enter the market. They demanded as to when the bus stand would be ready.
Sanquelim MLA Dr Sawant explained the reason behind the delay in constructing the bus stand and assured that it would be completed within the next eight months. He also disclosed that the delay was because of the contractor; he informed that the contractor would be changed so as to speed up the process.
It is pertinent that the new SMC building was inaugurated more than two years back, but still the municipal staffers are working from a rented premise. The people wanted to know as to why the shifting was not done. SMC chairman Dharmesh Saglani assured that the shifting would be done by November.
The traders told that there has been less customers coming to the market and so it was decided that Sanquelim bazaar day would be held for two days on Sunday and Monday instead of earlier Monday bazaar.
