The village of Sarvan in the Karapur-Sarvan panchayat is blessed with natural water resources. But it’s sad to note that the two natural springs and a lake in the village have been neglected for two decades as these could be turned into tourist destinations which in turn would benefit the locals and general public at large.
As per information there are two natural springs in Sarvan village of the Karapur-Sarvan panchayat. The residents feel that the panchayat should take the initiative to develop the area as it will benefit the locals and the general public.
Besides these two springs, there is a big lake in Sarvan, which meets the water requirements of the kulagars and other fields in the area. There are two natural springs in the area, which have been totally neglected.
“Twenty years ago, the lake in Sarvan was desilted and most of the mud was removed, but since then nothing has been done in this regard,” Tukaram Sawant, a resident from Sarvan informed.
“Close to this lake there are natural springs which if developed, could be good prove to be tourist destinations which will create business opportunities for the locals,” Sawant added.
“One of the natural springs is about 100 metres from the lake and provides water throughout the year. Earlier people used the spring water for bathing purpose as the water was considered to have medicinal value,” another resident informed.
This natural spring has been totally neglected as a portion of it has collapsed. Residents feel that if the spring is not maintained it would die a slow death.
“Now hardly anyone visits this spring and even the panchayat has neglected it. We want that the panchayat should take the initiative to restore this treasure,” a resident said.
When contacted, deputy sarpanch Dheeraj Sawant informed that he had approached the MLA to look into the matter so that the lake and the two natural springs could be restored.
“I had contacted the MLA to look into the matter but there is another problem to it. The land where this spring is located belongs to comunidade and they are not ready to issue an NOC for carrying out the restoration work,” Dheeraj said.
“The moment the panchayat gets an NOC from the comunidade we and the government can commence the work to restore the spring,” he added.
