VALPOI: More than 15 villages of Sattari taluka have been affected by dengue so far. Approximately 70 patients are being treated, and the number is expected to be on the higher side as many have preferred to get treated in private hospitals. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation, and measures such as fogging have been taken on priority.
Initially, dengue cases were detected in three villages of Sattari taluka. The number has drastically increased in the last few days.
Inconsistent rains have been one of the main reasons for the considerable increase in the number of dengue cases.
Stagnated rainwater is serving as breeding ground for mosquitoes, and the number of active cases near such places is reported to be high.
Measures such as fogging, awareness meetings are being undertaken in most of the affected villages.
Meanwhile, a special meeting of sarpanch’s for creating awareness about dengue, and to discuss steps to be taken to gain control over the situation was called a couple of days ago.
However, owing to the government’s decision to appoint administrators on panchayats, many sarpanch’s have allegedly bunked this meeting to shrug off their responsibility, said a source.
