PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Seva Dal along with all India Congress Seva Dal on Tuesday launched the Mandovi Bachao Andolan and demanded to move the casino ships to deep sea to avoid pollution in River Mandovi and make safe place for mankind.
“The river Mandovi is being polluted due to the operations of casinos in over Mandovi. Young children, who used to bring pride to their family by crossing the river, now get rashes on their skin when they enter the river.” said All India Congress Sevadal Joint Secretary Rakesh Shetty.
He said, “The river water is getting progressively polluted from the casinos usage and is becoming very harmful for people and the environment. Due to poor maintenance of the ships, regular spillage of oil is observed and fish in the river have become endangered.”
He further said that during the 2016 elections, the BJP had promised the people of Goa that the casinos will be moved assay immediately, but till now no actions have been taken.
“The Goa government has renewed their license for the next 6 months with effect from October 1, 2O18. This only increases the reasonable speculation that the government officers and ministers are in bed with the Casino owners,” he added
