Sawaikar to utilise MPLAD funds to create model village

MARGAO: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Tuesday said that he intends to utilise his MPLAD funds to create a self sufficient and model village in the field of sanitation, garbage management, agriculture and education.

“Instead of utilising the entire amount of Rs five crore under the MLPAD scheme across the district, I am put in place a concept wherein a village will be adopted may be on sanitation, garbage management in coastal area or agriculture along the western ghat region. Besides MLPAD fund, we can divert funds under development scheme to these villages”, he told newsmen on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Netravali Matoli Bazaar at the Lohia Maidan.
He said the concept will not only help involve the people in the project and bring in the necessary funds under other schemes.
On garbage management, Sawaikar said he has received two proposals for management of garbage under the scheme. “Once the concept succeeds, it can act as a role model for other villages to follow suit”, he said.
, adding that he already had an informal meeting with the Sarpanchas of coastal areas and discussed implementation of garbage management project.
The South Goa MP said the concept will be based on the lines of Netravali village adopted by the state government through the Planning department.
