Sawal calls for show of strength by Marathi lovers at Azad Maidan

PONDA: Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal has called upon the Marathi lovers to show their strength at the melava planned on November 13, at Azad Maidan, Panajim, so as to get official language status for Marathi.

He urged them to bring at least 5000 people for the melava to show the might of Marathi lovers.
Sawal was addressing to plannery meeting of Marathi lovers held under the banner of Marathi Rajyabasha Samithi, at VHP hall in Ponda, on Sunday.
Calling the BJP as an untrustworthy party, he said the amendment suggested by BJP MLA Sidharth Kuncoliekar to the Bill tabled by him seeking official language status for Marathi, was done at the behest of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
Claiming that he would sacrifice anything for the cause of Marathi, Sawal informed that he lost the friendship of two best colleagues by tabling the bill seeking official status for Marathi.
“My gift as an MLA to the Marathi lovers is the bill that I tabled in the House seeking official language status for Marathi,” he said.
Responding to Parsekar’s chiding that he did not take the chief minister into confidence before introducing the bill, Sawal said, “I did not take him into confidence, because he was not listening to my demand.”
Acknowledging the support of MLAs Vishnu Wagh and Lavoo Mamlatdar for Marathi, Sawal opined that if the entire MGP supported the Marathi cause, the fight for official language status for Marathi would succeed.
“Marathi must become official language of Goa, at any cost,” he said.
. Marathi must survive in Goa. I will never give up fighting for Marathi till the end of my life,” he said.
Admitting that he has been offered the MGP ticket to contest from Bicholim, Sawal said that he has not given up on the option of contesting as an Independent.
“My supporters are watching how the alliance and seat sharing between MGP and BJP are shaping up. Depending on that development, we will jointly decide my future direction – whether to contest on MGP ticket or as an Independent,” Sawal added.
