SC to hear disqualification petitions on April 6

NEW DELHI: The writ petitions for disqualification of a dozen MLAs of Goa who defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party after the last Assembly elections have been listed before the Supreme Court for hearing on April 6, a day after courts reopen after the week-long holidays for Holi and Good Friday.

The Bench of Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian passed the order for listing the cases on April 6 on mentioning by advocate-on-record Sahul Tagotra on Wednesday on behalf of Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar, who has accused the Goa Assembly Speaker while away time by not disposing his complaint to disqualify 10 MLAs under the disqualification law.

The second petition is against two MLAs of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), who defected and became the ministers in the BJP government in the State.

DIALYSIS SCAM: The same bench, headed by the CJI, on Wednesday ordered listing of the 2014 petition of R Venkatesh and others “after the ensuing Holi holidays.”

The case is tentatively listed on April 7 as per the computer generated date. The case relates to a challenge to the Goa Government on contracting and paying to the private hospitals for doing the dialysis at the government cost. The petition sought direction to the Centre to set up a committee of eminent persons to probe the irregularities.
