MAPUSA: The Porvorim Block Congress highlighted that the proposed IT Park in Porvorim is a scam in the offing and demanded a white paper on the IT policy of the State.
President of Porvorim Block Congress, Shankar Phadte said the IT Park  has been proposed on a land given free by the Serula comunidade to the Education dept 25 years ago.
“The concept of proposing a hybrid IT park means it is a mixture. It will comprise of restaurants, cafés, and clubs. Hence, it should be called a hybrid mall instead. They have proposed IT parks across Goa but have they done a scientific study? Do they know how many IT graduates are there in the State?” stated Phadte.
“The IT parks have been approved by the Parrikar government without a discussion at the cabinet and were done to favour the IT Minister. These IT policies that will involve crores of rupees and change in the demographics were not discussed seriously. They have not even studied how many start-ups are already there in Goa and what is the potential to have more,” he added.
The Porvorim Block Congress said the IT Park proposed in Porvorim  will turn a residential cum education hub into an industrial zone.
“Porvorim cannot sustain a mall and imagine an IT park. First of all water as well as other infrastructure is a major issue here. Due to this park local bodies will be deprived of basic amenities. Crime rates will also increase as it has been seen that whenever there is an IT park there has been increase in crime,” said Phate.
The North Goa NSUI President, Naushad Chowdhari pointed out that they demand from the government to promote campus interviews.
“The government should bring top companies to the campuses of Goan colleges so that students doing their graduation get an opportunity to prove themselves and get employment. They should create employment opportunities for IT graduates in the government departments like police cyber cell, sub- registrar and others since IT graduates are blank after their graduation. There is barely any scope for them in Goa hence they should be hired in the government IT departments,” said Naushad.
