Scheme launched for SC farmers

PANJIM: In order to encourage Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers to take up agriculture for their economic upliftment and to encourage youth for self employment in agriculture, the State government has launched a special assistance for purchase of agricultural inputs' financial assistance scheme for this economically backward community.

PANJIM: In order to encourage Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers to take up agriculture for their economic upliftment and to encourage youth for self employment in agriculture, the State government has launched a special assistance for purchase of agricultural inputs’ financial assistance scheme for this economically backward community. 
Government on Friday notified the scheme for SC farmers, under which a subsidy of up to 75 percent of the cost on inputs such as seeds, planting material, pesticides, soil conditioners, bio-fertilizers etc., with a maximum subsidy limit of Rs12,000 per ha would be provided. The maximum area to be considered for subsidy for an individual farmer is 2 ha. 
 “SC farmers are financially weak and do not use the required inputs as recommended for cultivation, to provide financial boost to these farmers and to encourage youth from the communities for self employment and to build confidence among the SC farmers against the price inflation of the inputs and follow recommended package of practices, government has proposed the said scheme,” the notification reads. 
The scheme would be implemented and monitored by Plant Protection Section under control of deputy Director of Agriculture (PP), while the farmers have to make their claims to the concern zonal agricultural officer.
