Sources, however, say that the higher secondary school premises is not the only place used by unscrupulous elements to while away time and make merry after dusk.
Some of the town’s open spaces and isolated spots in the Comba-Mungul belt, including the railway track, SAG Sports Complex, Monte Hill, the abandoned ring road etc have been converted into “joints” party and illicit activity joints for the young and old.
It’s not uncommon to find empty liquor bottles, boxes and beer cans abandoned in and around these isolated spots – a situation that has still not attracted the attention it deserves from the Margao police.
Manoj Hede of Comba is dismayed at the behaviour of these youth. “We have come across many youngsters whiling away their time at the isolated spots in the Comba area. If one takes a look at the isolated area behind the playground owned by a town-school, one would see it littered with liquor bottles and boxes. We cannot allow misuse of these places close to the educational institutions.”
With the Mungul-Comba ring road virtually hitting a dead end, the incomplete road has come in handy for many to loiter around till late in the night. While the isolated spot atop the picturesque Monte Hill has been a favourite joint of youngsters over the years, it’s not uncommon to find people equipped with beer cans and bottles heading to the SAG Complex outside the Nehru Stadium late evenings through the unmanned entry and exit gates to start their parties.
