CALANGUTE: The North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association (NGTTOA) has threaten an agitation in front of the office of Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) at Panjim on July 11 and 12 if the GoaMiles app is not scrapped by then.
NGTTOA President Vasudev Arlekar said that as the leader of the people, the chief minister should first try and understand the pain and hardship of the bahujan community.
“There is a need to scrap the GoaMiles app as we are the only service provides since the Portuguese time. That is our only source of income and occupation followed by our forefathers. If the government fails to scrap the GoaMiles app, all the taxi drivers will demand government jobs by surrendering their licences and permits to the government,” Arlekar said addressing a press conference at a hotel in Calangute on Wednesday.
NGTTOA member Bappa Korgaonkar demanded that the government bring to their notice if there was any instance of written complaints of taxi drivers cheating or overcharging tourists.
“Before accusing us of overcharging, they should show us any complaint made by a tourist. The government is not bothered about the other sectors cheating the public, but fear the earnings of the taxi drivers,” he said.
Yogesh Govekar, another member, said that every tourist coming to Goa is like God. “We demand action against the tours and travel operators who are charging exorbitant prices. The chief minister should once again take a close look at this issue and have a meeting with all the taxi drivers belonging to the bahujan community,” Govekar said.
