MARGAO: A major fire totally gutted the scrap yard situated behind the crowded Gandhi Market at Margao and three fire tenders were busy tackling the fire even late evening. The Fire Services were informed about the fire at 7.30 pm.
The fire tender that rushed to the site realized that they needed help and called for reinforcements and a second tender was rushed there and subsequently at around 8.30 pm a third tender was dispatched.
The scrap yard reportedly belongs to the father of a Police Sub Inspector who had leased it out to one Shyamlal Nishad from Uttar Pradesh who is also reportedly running a restaurant nearby.
When the fire broke out, onlookers reported hearing a loud blast that sounded like gas cylinder bursting but the same could not be confirmed.
