PONDA: A year after issuing the notice, the Curti-Khandepar Panchayat finally bulldozed the illegal scrapyard operating at Bazaarmol, Curti, on Tuesday.
According to the locals, the scrapyard was operating for the past several years causing nuisance in the area.
In this connection, one local Sandeep Parkar had filed a complaint in the year 2021 following which the panchayat body had conducted an inspection and based on it had issued a show cause notice to owner of scrapyard Basawraj Allaynavar on March 2, 2021 to produce the required documents. However, as Basawraj failed to produce it to the panchayat body in the meeting held on June 1, 2021, it was resolved to issue a demolition order. Accordingly, Basawraj was directed to demolish it. However, as he failed to do so, finally the panchayat demolished the illegal scrapyard.
According to complainant Parkar, the scrapyard was operating near a residential area. Further, it was burning waste material which was posing risk to the health. Also there were chances of spreading waterborne diseases due to empty barrels, utensils at the scrapyard.
According to the locals, the government should provide space to scrapyards in industrial areas as many of them dangerously operate in the residential areas.
