PANJIM: The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said that the recent Supreme Court judgment not making standing up for national anthem compulsory is absolutely wrong.
“I don’t want to go into the merit of the judgment but as per my opinion it is absolutely wrong,” Parrikar said while addressing a gathering at the Gomantak Balshikshan Parishad annual convention.
“People’s reaction on whether to remain sitting or stand up during national anthem do not depend on Supreme Court judgment but it is a part of their culture and upbringing. There have been values imbibed in every Indian citizen that we should stand up when the National Anthem is being played,” Parrikar said.
He further said he had once gone to attend a function where the organisers told me that there is a judgment which does not make it mandatory for the people to stand up when National Anthem was played.
“I told him that let us not go into the merits of the judgment. I asked him to appeal to all the people present at the function to stand up when the national anthem was being played,” he informed.
Meanwhile, Parrikar also stressed on proper value education at the primary level.
that would make a student a good citizen in future.
