Following the recent fire tragedy that claimed 25 lives, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), invoking Sections 22(2)(h), 22(2)(i) and 24 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, has issued an advisory to all nightclubs, restaurants, bars, event venues and similar establishments in the State.
All such premises must now comply strictly with fire, electrical, structural and emergency safety norms. This includes maintaining a valid Fire NOC, enforcing occupancy limits, ensuring working alarms, detectors and fire-fighting systems, using certified electrical setups, keeping exits clear and illuminated, and conducting regular staff training and evacuation drills.
NDMA-recommended emergency escape techniques must also be included in training. Each establishment must complete an internal safety audit within seven days for inspection.
Non-compliance may lead to closure, license suspension, cancellation or prosecution under Section 51(b) of the DM Act and other applicable laws. The advisory takes effect immediately.
