MARGAO: Social Democratic Party of India has decided to contest both the North and South Goa seats in the forthcoming 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
This was decided at SDPI’s state working committee meeting, which was attended by party’s national vice-president Hafiz Manzur Ali Khan.
After the meeting, state president Ziaulla Rikarty told the media that the SDPI will hold meetings with the people and leaders of Goa, who have shown positive interest in the coming polls.
“The government has failed to meet the requirements of the marginalised sections of the society. Hence, we will all join hands to fulfil the long-pending demands”, he said, while lamenting that the central government has only set up commissions, but failed to implement the recommendations.
When it was pointed out that the party would only end up in splitting the secular votes given its thin presence in Goa, Rikarty said the party has decided to launch an intensive membership drive campaign to enrol people of all communities to be its party members, while making an appeal to the people of Goa to be part of this national-level political party for corruption-free and positive policies in India.
Reiterating its demand for the arrest of all those involved in the Canacona building collapse case, Rikarty demanded to know what prevents the government from laying its hands on the builder.
