Seafarers pension issue will be resolved before polls: MLA

MARGAO: Stating life of the seafarers is like a hard-fought struggle, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao assured the seafarers community that their demand with regard to the pension scheme will be resolved before the upcoming Assembly elections. 

Briefing the media persons along with Frank Viegas, president of Goa Seafarers Association of India and other office-bearers, Churchill said, “The pension scheme to the retired seafarers and widows was closed soon after the death of Manohar Parrikar. The association had approached me to raise issue on floor of the House.” 

“Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had issued an order to release the pending amount of scheme to the beneficiaries. The government has also assured to make this scheme permanent before the upcoming Assembly elections and I trust the words of the Chief Minister,” said Churchill.
